The first letter of "victory" must have been the inspiration for the design of the Victory ships, because they were built precisely like a “V”. They were deep and narrow and cut through the water like a hot knife through butter. They were not conducive to a smooth voyage, however. They seemed to toss and roll continually, even when the sea was calm.
